Humanists in Action: Rainbow Wardrobe Clothing Drive @ American Empathy Project
Details
HumanistsMN is collecting items for Rainbow Wardrobe, a project of the PRIDE Cultural Arts Center. (See suggestions below.) Their mission is to empower everyone to live their most authentic life by dressing in a way that truly reflects who they are.
Bring your donations -- lightly used and new items -- to our American Empathy Project events at First Unitarian Society between 3:00 and 4:00pm on Saturday, May 2. We will be delivering clothing and accessories to the Center later that afternoon.
Rainbow Wardrobe is currently collecting the following items . . .
- Summer clothing: Tee shirts, tank tops, skirts, shorts
- Summer accessories: Sunglasses, hats, jewelry, bandanas
- Everyday clothing: New socks, plain shirts
- Plus size: Masc & femme clothing sizes XL+, shoes sizes 10+
The Rainbow Wardrobe is a community service dedicated to providing free gender-affirming care in a welcoming, private, and supportive environment. They offer a space where LGBTQIA2S+ individuals can try on clothing that affirms their gender identity, without the discomfort or anxiety they might face in traditional retail settings.
All items in their wardrobe, including clothing, chest binders, tucking underwear, and breast forms, are available at no cost to clients.
Rainbow Wardrobe exists to offer clothing expression outside the gender binary. Choosing clothes that aligns with one's identity is a universal act of self-expression—and for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals; it can be a powerful form of gender-affirming care. By reframing gender-affirming care in this way, Rainbow Wardrobe aims to de-stigmatize it and celebrate self-expression as a vital part of every person’s journey.
