Scrolling Smart: Media Literacy in the Digital Age @ Humanist Gatherings
Details
In an era dominated by corporate media consolidation, algorithm-driven social platforms, and a flood of online content, media literacy is now an essential life skill. Who
decides which stories rise to the top of our feeds — and why?
This compelling presentation explores how media consolidation affects the diversity of information available to audiences, how algorithms and attention-driven platforms trigger emotional engagement and bias, and how independent media can both inform and mislead.
Join us for an opportunity to scrutinize the present media landscape and gain practical tools to evaluate information, identify manipulation, and become a more thoughtful and informed media consumer.
The presentation and discussion will be from 3:00—4:30, facilitated by HumanistsMN members Matt Brennecke, Dayna Wolhart, and Kazi Ahmed Habib. Afterwards, join other Saturday session attendees in the gallery for refreshments and socializing.
