Join us to celebrate the life of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play Major League Baseball in the modern era with the docudrama "42’"(PG-13, 2013). Arrive around 6:30 PM for a little socializing; as always, bring your own beverage. Some snacks will be provided but feel free to bring something to share if you'd like. The film starts at 7:00 PM followed by some post-movie discussion for those who care to linger and mingle.

The movie chronicles Robinson’s journey to join the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and the nearly insurmountable racial animus he had to overcome to stay there. The late Chadwick Boseman (‘Black Panther’, (2018)) delivers a standout performance as Robinson while Harrison Ford sets aside his Indiana Jones/Han Solo personas to do some actual acting as Branch Rickey, the white owner of the Dodgers who seeks a special ally to break baseball’s color barrier. The film’s title refers to Jackie Robinson’s jersey number, which has since become the only number to be retired across all of Major League Baseball. In honor of Robinson’s accomplishments, no one will ever wear ‘42’ again – except on ‘Jackie Robinson Day' each April, when every ballplayer in MLB wears it in commemoration.
