River Road Fall Color Walk with Humanists
Details
Come join fellow humanists and friends for a hike and camaraderie! Make new friends and connect with nature! Enjoy the peaking Fall colors along the Mississippi River, as well as a few local landmarks and interconnected walking paths. If you want an intro to the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway, this walk is for you!
Aim to arrive 10 minutes early so that we can connect and decide which overlooks are preferred, as we consider each location's terrain.
We will walk 5-6 miles with a few moderate inclines. We’ll aim for a moderate pace in flat areas and a casual pace on the inclines.
Options include:
- Lower Minnehaha Falls - hard packed gravel trails
- River Road - paved walking trail
- Or a bit of both trails, noting how each connects with local bridges & trails. Many free apps have dots or arrows that move in real time as you walk. They’re a handy tool for new adventures.
Additional considerations:
- Dress with sturdy footwear and sunscreen/glasses/hat. Consider hiking poles. Add a comment if you need to borrow poles. (Gail has 3 pairs available to borrow.)
- Bring a water bottle. There is a small water fountain but no bottle filler.
- Consider bringing any comforts that allow you to cool down after the walk, such as a change of shoes & socks, or shirt.
- If you’d like to bring your dog, please add a note to the event and remember to bring bags for clean up, and a water bowl for afterwards. Gail’s 4 and 5 will be happy to meet them.
