AI: Technological Oracles or Bullshit Machines? @ Humanists Gather
Details
Join us for this monthly series on "AI" -- more properly defined as LLMs (large-language-models) -- what they are, how they operate, and what it means for society and culture. In Session One we will focus on Autocomplete, "Bullshit," and Turing Tests.
Over the next 6 months, we will explore AI with the help of this online open-course developed by Carl T. Bergstrom and Jevin D. West, https://thebullshitmachines.com/about-us/index.html. Each session will go through 3 of the lessons in a casual, conversational format. The course will be adapted to highlight humanist values, concerns, and questions -- with potential additional information presented from outside the course.
The sessions will be led by HumanistsMN board member Zach Armstrong who has a degree in data science and works in healthcare analytics.
The presentation and discussion will be from 3:00 - 4:30 pm. Afterwards, join other Saturday session attendees in the gallery for refreshments and socializing.
