Walk off the turkey! Come join fellow humanists and friends for a hike and camaraderie! Celebrate Free Park Day, make new friends and connect with nature! Check out these park photos for a preview of what’s in store. We will hike 6 miles with some inclines. We’ll aim for a moderate pace in flat areas and a casual pace on the inclines.

Aim to arrive 10 minutes early to allow us to find each other and preview our route. This is a great opportunity to walk past tent camping sites or rental cabins that may inspire your future endeavors. You’re among an avid camper who loves to help others start their own adventure and hike their own hike.

Bathrooms and water are both located inside the Trail Center, accessible before and after the hike.

If you’d like to bring your dog, bring bags for clean up, and a water bowl. You can message Gail directly if you’d like to arrange a dog-to-dog introduction prior to the event. Gail frequents Minneapolis area trails and parks daily and is a lifelong learner of positive reinforcement.

Please check the Meetup Event before you leave home, just in case there are special announcements. In the event of inclement weather, the Meetup event will announce a cancellation by 11:00 AM the day of the hike.

Logistics:

  • Dress with sturdy, waterproof footwear. Trails have sturdy hard packed gravel in the marshy areas, but may have some mud.
  • Consider hiking poles. Add a comment if you need to borrow poles. (Gail has 3 pairs available to borrow.)
  • Bring a water bottle and a light snack to enjoy during the beautiful overlooks.
  • Consider bringing any comforts that allow you to cool down after the walk, such as a change of shoes & socks, or shirt.

You can download this GeoPDF map and the free version of Avenza for navigating our hike. Browse the list of MN State Parks and download any GeoPDF maps that you may wish to use in the future. Then, upload the maps to Avenza.
