TED Talk Salon: Susan Cain on The power of introverts

Come to our TED Talk Salon for a thought-provoking presentation and lively discussion. For the curious world citizen, you may enjoy this video-style book club. (Preparation not required.)

This month's topic:

"There's zero correlation between being the best talker and having the best ideas."

In a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else, it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert. But, as Susan Cain argues in this passionate talk, introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and should be encouraged and celebrated.

3:30...Watch the TED Talk, discuss in groups of 7-8 people
4:45/5:00...Whole group summary/further discussion
5:30...Socializing until the library closes at 6

Helpful info:

• We'll be in the downstairs Cargill Room:

• Library is within a 1/2 mile of hwy 55 and 94, on the west side of downtown Mpls.

• Free lot and on-street parking; on several bus routes.

Monthly, we view a recorded, 20-minute TED Talk from those posted at Talks are by a person notable in their field, who has interesting things to say. After viewing their piece, we'll break into smaller groups and talk about the ideas raised (with the occasional tangent! :-)

Talks are selected because they catch my interest and I think we can have a stimulating conversation based on it. (Your recommendation welcomed-email Rebecca.)

This meeting will complete 1 full year of the TED Salon!

Our first event was Kathryn Schultz on Being Wrong in December, 2011. I'm so pleased to see the interest and lively discussions we have.

Let me know your topic and/or speaker recommendations for our 2nd year.
