Re: [humanism-166] New Event: What a Difference a Year Makes!: An Update from Your Lobbyist in Washington

Yes, I know this is a mass emailing, but I'm just looking for some conversation on what exactly the "nontheist" platform/agenda is. ?I've over the past year moved away from Christanity because after some personal experiences, I couldn't put "faith" in Christianity as a superior belief system. ?

I since have looked for an active agnostic community in Minnesota, and Humanists of Minnesota seemed to qualify. ?However, I've been disappointed that all Humanists discussions have revolved around anti-religious pretenses. ?In this email I see the "nontheist" is trying to gain exposure at the federal level which isn't necessary anti-religious, but I'm failing to find the good for humanity in that. ?

I didn't become agnostic (possibly humanist or whatever label) to get on the other side of a religion debate into the validity of Jesus or anything like that. ?From my upbringing, Jesus, even if fictional, is an inspiration figure, just like Jean Valjean or Gandhi. ?By disproving the existence of Jesus, are Humanists suggesting his teachings of love and forgiveness should also be marginalized? ?

One of my biggest problems with the church was with the lack of focus on serving one another. ?Is there no collective agnostic focus on community and world service? ?If so, could someone please help me find it? ?I want to get involved with fellow (non-)believers!?

Thank you for your time.

Eric

What: What a Difference a Year Makes!: An Update from Your Lobbyist in Washington

When: Saturday, February 23, 10:00 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Event Description: Lori Lipman Brown returns to update us on how the past 12 months have catapulted nontheists into an even more prestigious position among members of Congress, theistic allies, and the public. Lori will be interviewed twice on Atheists Talk radio while she is here?on Feb. 17 by Minnesota Atheists and on Feb. 24 by Scott Lohman, Humanists of Minnesota president. Tune in to Atheists Talk on Sunday mornings, 9-10 a.m., AM 950 KTNF, or stream live at AirAmericaMinnesota.com.
