Houston Area Women's Center Leadership Campaign - Help Humanists of Houston with a donation!

From: Roxie D.

Humanists of Houston is proud to be participating in The Houston Area Women's Center Leadership Campaign, bringing together Houston's top corporate and community leaders to publicly call for an end to domestic violence. The campaign culminates in a two-page signature ad in the Houston Chronicle during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. Our goal is to raise the minimum $1000 to have our organization’s name included in the Chronicle ad. Our deadline is September 30 2012.

Funds raised through the campaign directly support the Women's Center Emergency Shelter, a 120-bed haven that offers women and children fleeing violent homes a safe place to sleep, counseling, career development, early childhood education, an onsite HISD school, parenting classes, nutritious meals, and access to a wide-range of resources to help them rebuild their lives.

In Humanist Manifesto III, it states

Humans are social by nature and find meaning in relationships. Humanists long for and strive toward a world of mutual care and concern, free of cruelty and its consequences, where differences are resolved cooperatively without resorting to violence. The joining of individuality with interdependence enriches our lives, encourages us to enrich the lives of others, and inspires hope of attaining peace, justice, and opportunity for all.

Working to benefit society maximizes individual happiness. Progressive cultures have worked to free humanity from the brutalities of mere survival and to reduce suffering, improve society, and develop global community.

There are several hundred people who are members of the Humanists of Houston meetup group. If everyone who received this notice contributed $5 Humanists of Houston could easily reach their goal of contributing $1000 to the Houston Area Women's Center Leadership Campaign. If you can donate $5, please don’t wait on someone else to do so.

You can use Paypal to send your donation to [address removed]

If you prefer to pay by check, contact Roxie Deaton for an address or bring your donation to the monthly gathering on September 15.

Thanks for your help in making this a successful fundraiser for the Houston Area Women's Center!
