 Secular versus religious ethics

Details

Unfortunately Douglas James Grothe (DJ) now has a conflict with this date and so he will talk to WASH MDC on Secular versus religious ethics later in the year. Gary Berg-Cross will lead a discussion on this topic on the 30th.

Among the topics:
Can we develop a secular ethics as an aid to build strong communities without a religious basis or bias?
That’s an "ethics based solely on human faculties such as logic, empathy, reason or moral intuition, and not derived from belief in supernatural revelation or divine guidance."

Maybe a bio-social basis for ethical beliefs can be objective, along with what Psych and Sociology tell us.

American novelist Marilynne Robinson provides a challenge. She says she knows some GOOD people who are atheists, BUT "lamented that she has yet to hear "the good Atheist position articulated." She explained, "I cannot engage with an atheism that does not
express itself." W might think of how to respond to that.
