hike to Sturtevant Falls

Details

Greetings all my next hike is to Sturtevant Falls in the San Gabriel Mtn's. 500 ft worth of elevation gain/loss. It is 1.5 miles in and the same distance out. Most of this is in the first part of the trail and is downhill at the start, obviously uphill on the return trip. First part of the trail is open with great views, it then goes down into a forest covered trail. To get there Take the 110 N to Pasadena where it ends and becomes Arroyo Parkway. Go up the parkway to Colorado Bl and turn right. Take Colorado about 1 block to Marengo Ave and turn left. Go to Corson St The on ramp for the 210 east bound frwy is at the intersection. Get on the 210 eastbound to Santa Anita Bl off ramp and go toward the mountain. Santa Anita bl ends at Chantry Flats. Day use permit required, it costs $5. Permits can be picked up at places like R.E.I. or Sports Chalet. They are also sold at the pack station at Chantry Flats. Some advice. Hiking in the San Gabriel Mtns has been heavily impacted by the station fire a few years back. A lot of people are now making use of Chanty flats. If you see a lot of cars parked along the side of the road as you approach Chantry Flats that means the lot is full and you will need to park along the side of the road. Do so and walk to chantry flats. There is also parking in the pack station for an additional $10. Also advisable pick up the day use permit before you get to chantry flats. Dogs are permitted on the trail. Hope to see you there Norman
