International Democracy Day Dialogue

Details
September 15 is the United Nations–designated International Day of Democracy, and to commemorate it, the week is rich with Democracy Café events. As UNESCO states, “Democracy is as much a process as a goal, and only with the full participation of and support by the international community, national governing bodies, civil society and individuals, can the ideal of democracy be made a reality to be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere.”
As our first exchange in this series with one of our beloved advisory board members, we invite you to listen to Dr. Cornel West as he and our nonprofit co-founder Christopher Phillips take a deep dive into the concept of democracy, and raise some thought-provoking questions and ideas such as:
How do we remain pro-human in a violently polarized world?
How can you be critical in an authoritarian society?
How do we understand the nature of suffering?
Intellectual integrity is the starting point to Socratic questioning, moving to a larger dimension of what it means to be human.
Can a democracy be the tyranny of the majority?
