Sunday Speaker: Stephanie Kemmerer - What Conspiracy Theories Steal From Us

Details
Speaker & Topic:
When we think of conspiracy theories, we think of tales of intrigue and mystery; powerful, unseen forces controlling our lives in ways we can't even imagine. These ideas and narratives intrigue us and beguile us. Who doesn't want access to secret knowledge? Who doesn't want answers to unanswerable questions? But what about the real stories that those conspiracy theories steal from us? So many real stories - both tragic and triumphant - get lost within this world of intrigue. Conspiracy theories steal from us very real stories of struggle and survival, of despair and death.
Stephanie Kemmerer, a former Sandy Hook and 9/11 Truther, takes us on a little journey to reclaim the real stories that conspiracy theories steal from us. As part of her ongoing examination of her former beliefs, she has discovered so many amazing, true stories that have been virtually erased by conspiratorial narratives because they are evidence against the conspiracy theories. Many of you are likely already familiar with some of these stories, but this will be a new way of understanding them: you will get to experience these stories for the first time as she did.
Stephanie Kemmerer is a former conspiracy theorist and freelance writer. She has written for Skeptical Inquirer, AIPT Comics, and Free Inquiry. She has done presentations for Skeptical Inquirer and the Secular Coalition of Arizona. She has appeared as a guest on The Doug Stanhope podcast, Adventures in HellwQrld, Recovering from Religion and the Q Dropped podcast. She is part of the American Information Integrity Alliance, a group formed to combat dis- and mis-information online. Currently in the process of registering as a non-profit organization, she is the head of AIIA's subgroup, D.O.U.B.T. - Discussing Our Unusual Beliefs Together. D.O.U.B.T. is a support system for other recovering conspiracy theorists. In her free time she creates video skits with her stuffed animals and studies 9/11 from a reality-based perspective. You can reach her and AIIA at: DOUBTisTheWayOut@proton.me
