About us
"The Humanist Society of Santa Barbara is an all volunteer non-profit educational organization that promotes the values of Humanism on the Central Coast of California. Humanists care about having this one precious life be the best that it can be for all people on the planet, and about preserving the Earth for future generations.
Most humanists are secular, many are atheists (having either been raised as atheists or having "thought their way out" of their religious upbringing).
Humanists stand in wonder at the magnificence and complexity of the universe, and are generally curious and interested in how things work, how things came to be the way they are, and how to impact where we are headed for the benefit of all humanity.
Humanists value reason and the scientific method as the most reliable method of discovering what is true. We value our 1st amendment rights, particularly freedom of speech and the separation of religion from government.

Gaviota Wind Caves Hike to Gaviota Pass Overlook!
Gaviota Wind Caves, 1595 US-101, Goleta, CA, USGAVIOTA CAVES HIKE TO OVERLOOK!
WHERE: DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD:
Here is a Google satellite view of the location where we will meet to start the hike. This is the start of Hollister Ranch Road near Gaviota State Beach. Just before you would enter Gaviota State Beach, you make a sharp turn to the right and the parking lot is just at the top of that short hill.

WHEN: Meet at the TRAILHEAD at 10:30AM on Sunday January 25
WHAT: We will hike up about 500 feet from near Gaviota State Beach and explore the caves and wind tunnels in the ridges above. We will visit the main Wind Cave. Then continue on the trail all the way out to the antenna and overlook above Gaviota Pass. See the photo above!
This route is about 5-6 miles round trip. It is mostly on trails, but there is a scramble to get up to the main wind cave. Some agility required.
Here are photos from when I last led this in 2022!

BRING: Please note! The connector over to the Lookout fire road is often overgrown. So... I strongly recommend wearing lightweight long pants! Bring at least a liter of water and something to eat.
CARPOOLS? We will meet at the Gaviota Caves Trailhead at 10:30AM. However, those who want to carpool can meet at the fountain in front of the Mission at 9:45AM. It will take about 40 minutes to drive from there to the trailhead. NOTE: I will not be at the Mission! I will meet you at the trailhead!
NOTE: NO DOGS, PLEASE!
LIABILITY WAIVER! This event is listed by the Humanist Society, but is not sponsored by the Humanist Society.
