What we’re about
"The Humanist Society of Santa Barbara is an all volunteer non-profit educational organization that promotes the values of Humanism on the Central Coast of California. Humanists care about having this one precious life be the best that it can be for all people on the planet, and about preserving the Earth for future generations.
Most humanists are secular, many are atheists (having either been raised as atheists or having "thought their way out" of their religious upbringing).
Humanists stand in wonder at the magnificence and complexity of the universe, and are generally curious and interested in how things work, how things came to be the way they are, and how to impact where we are headed for the benefit of all humanity.
Humanists value reason and the scientific method as the most reliable method of discovering what is true. We value our 1st amendment rights, particularly freedom of speech and the separation of religion from government.

Thanksgiving Gaviota Wind Caves Hike and Potluck Dinner!
Gaviota Wind Caves, 1595 US-101, Goleta, CA, USTHANKSGIVING HIKE AND POTLUCK DINNER!
WHERE: DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD:
Here is a Google satellite view of the location where we will meet to start the hike. This is the start of Hollister Ranch Road near Gaviota State Beach. Just before you would enter Gaviota State Beach, you make a sharp turn to the right and the parking lot is just at the top of that short hill.

WHEN: Meet at trailhead at 10:00AM on Thanksgiving - November 27
We will hike up about 500 feet from near Gaviota State Beach and explore the caves and wind tunnels in the ridges above. We will stop at the main Wind Cave this time, so this is shorter than my usual Gaviota Caves hike.
Some rock scrambling and agility required. Light colored long pants are recommended. Moderate 4 miles round trip. Bring a snack and plenty of water.
POTLUCK THANKSGIVING DINNER!
Regular hikers Sarah Hough and Martin Pattison are kindly hosting a Potluck Thanksgiving Dinner at their home after the hike! Sarah will make turkey and at least one side dish. But she is asking people to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share.
Their house is at 26 Mendocino Drive in Goleta, near Dos Pueblos High School. Here it is on Google Maps:

Sarah will be on the hike and her cell number is (805) 705-9062
I am guessing the Potluck will begin around 1:30 to 2:00PM. That allows time for the hike and for people to run to the store or to their refrigerator to get last minute things.
NOTE: NO DOGS, PLEASE!
LIABILITY WAIVER! This event is listed by the Humanist Society, but is not sponsored by the Humanist Society.
