View the Cosmos thru Historic 100" Mt. Wilson Telescope!

Details

The Humanist Society of Santa Barbara (HSSB) has reserved the use of the Mt. Wilson 100" telescope for private viewing of the cosmos Saturday evening, August 16 from ~7:04pm to 1:00am Sunday morning, guided by an astronomer.

The Mt. Wilson website says:
"Located on Mount Wilson, a 5,710-foot peak in the San Gabriel Mountains near Pasadena, California, the Observatory was conceived and founded by George Ellery Hale in 1904. The home of some of the most important telescopes in the development of modern astronomy - including the two largest telescopes of their time - it is a site of significant scientific and Los Angeles history... These are the largest telescopes in the world that are available for public use. The 100-inch telescope was used by many of the greatest astronomers of the Twentieth Century. Imagine looking through the telescope used by Edwin Hubble in the 1920s to measure the expansion of the Universe."

This rare opportunity is limited to 20 people. The trip is now officially full, so we are starting a wait list in case of any last minute cancellations.

The cost to attend the viewing is $125 (payable to HSSB).
Transportation & lodging is on your own.

If you would like to add your name to the wait list, please contact our excursion leader, Gary Noreen (yoda@ardio.com).

Looking forward to marveling at our universe!
