Details

Fellow Humanists,

We talk about how thoughts and prayers aren’t enough, so it is important for us to show what actually makes a difference in the lives of people who need help. By demonstrating that we are invested in improving the world around us, we should be able to break down stigma and negative preconceptions about atheists.

Henceforth we've been looking for opportunities for showing our presence for community service, especially with Homeless Outreach for quite a time. We are looking forward to lending our support to an existing non-profit organization "Streets of Hope" and giving a lasting, positive impact on society at large.
This would be a weekly event every Monday night. Although we would love to see many of the Humanists reaching and helping the humans on the street, a lot of times the number of volunteers is way more than we could have anticipated. We would like to limit the number of volunteers to 10 for now.
Please RSVP and if the number of volunteers is reached the limit, and you still wanted to be part of this, please add your comments to this event, we could try to reach out to the NGO to add more volunteers from our group.

What to Bring?
There is no need to bring anything to help the team serve the homeless. Just show your presence.
However, if you would like, you could bring:

  • Bottled water
  • Toiletries and Hygiene items
  • Clothing, especially socks
  • Blankets
  • Tent
  • Sleeping Bags

Helping by cash to the homeless is not encouraged.

Parking: Although we do meet at Smarts & Final parking, we do not recommend parking at Smarts & Final's parking. There are plenty of spaces available for street parking near the store.

Responses on messages: Apologies to those who tried before and who are trying to reach us through Meetup Messages, we are not able to check the messages often. It is very rare, when Naresh or the Streets of Hope's Homeless Outreach Organizer, Dan is not present at the event. But to everyone's surprise, this event(Streets of Hope's Homeless Outreach) has NEVER missed any Mondays for the past 11 years(Including COVID times and riots). That would mean that no matter if we are not able to respond, feel free to reach there and mention our group. Everyone is invited.
