Socrates Cafe Arlington

Details

Some members of HoFW have attended Socrates Cafes in Fort Worth and Arlington and enjoyed it, so we're spreading the word in case others are interested. A description of Socrates Cafe is below.

The Arlington group meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:30 to 12:00 at J. Gilligan's, 400 E. Abram St, Arlington, TX 76010.

It's free to attend. Anyone can suggest a question for discussion, and anyone who would like to speak can. These gatherings address the Humanist Commitments of critical thinking and ethical development.

The meetings are based on the book "Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy" by Dr. Christopher Phillips, but you don't need to read it to attend or to understand what's going on. Here's the gist from AI: "A Socrates Cafe is a gathering where people come together to engage in thoughtful, philosophical discussions using the Socratic Method. It's a space for open dialogue, where participants explore fundamental questions about life and human experience through respectful inquiry and shared reflection. The goal is to foster intellectual curiosity and a deeper understanding of oneself and others, rather than to debate or arrive at definitive answers."
