Revealing the lost Mesopotamian city at Kurd Qaburstan, Iraq
Between 2013 and 2025 researchers from Johns Hopkins University, the University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Central Florida studied the lost city at Kurd Qaburstan, Iraq, through archaeological geophysics and targeted excavations. Andy Creekmore will join us via Zoom to explain how a magnetometry survey works, what was learned about this 100 hectare city's plan, and how it fits into Mesopotamian urban culture of 3700 – 5300 years ago. Dr. Creekmore has Anthropology degrees from Penn State and Northwestern Universities, focuses on the application of geophysics to spatial settlement organization, and has conducted fieldwork in Turkey, Israel, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, and U.S.A.
