Surviving Religion: 3rd Sunday Discussion/Support Group

Details
It takes a strong constitution to deal with religion in this society (pun intended!) Join our monthly discussion/support group. We all need a little help from our friends to survive the culture clash: it's the secular world versus religion!
We'll discuss the issues for atheists, agnostics and longtime humanists, and offer support for those just coming out of religion or still dealing with resentments or rejection as a result of their decision to follow the path of science and reason.
Bring recent media articles to share, for example: the intrusion of religion into the "secular" government, battles over the schools, marriage equality, unsung heroes, abuses and solutions abroad, etc.; and your thoughts on the society we envision as humanists.
Come early and join others gathered upstairs for coffee and pastries before the main program, then head back downstairs at 10:00 AM for our discussion.
All are welcome to engage the speaker at AfterThoughts from 11:30-noon before heading off to brunch at a nearby eatery.
Be sure to peruse our humanism library down the hall -- books available to lend upon HGP membership.
All Meetup fees are paid by our sponsor though your memberships; donations towards the work of the Humanists of Greater Portland are gratefully accepted.
We look forward to seeing you -- bring a friend!
"Freedom to differ is not limited to things that do not matter much. That would be a mere shadow of freedom. The test of its substance is the right to differ as to things that touch the heart of the existing order." ~Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette (1943)
