For January, we will discuss the values we tend to share as Humanists. In what ways do our values set us apart from theists? Are there unique aspects of humanism that distinguish us from other non-believer communities?

We will explore the differnces we percieve, certainly; but also the commonalities that can help us connect with friends, family and others in our community who do not subscribe to our core values.

As a first attempt, and to get the conversation started, I assert the following regarding our unique values:

  1. A reliance on scientific inquiry to discover what is real and possible about nature and the wider universe.
  2. A rejection of supernaturalism
  3. Empathy, compassion and advocacy for liberal human rights, including democracy.

Our meeting will be in-person at the DuPage Unitarian Church in the Learning Center (enter, then turn right and go up the small set of stairs to the large meeting room).

We will also be hosting the meeting on Zoom for those who cannot join in person. However, in-person participation is much more fun! ;)

The zoom information will be published the day of the meeting.
