Beyond the 1’s and 0’s: The Human Side of IT

In the era of digital transformation, IT professionals are tasked with doing more and staying connected at an ever increasing rate. The technology industry is the fastest changing industry there is around but the often-overlooked part of this industry is the humans that work with the technology. Humans are not robots even though some may feel or think that we are. However, we are not. There are many facets to humans. We are the most complex machine there is yet we have the most difficult time understanding and taking care of ourselves. In this session we’ll discuss some of the challenges such as work life balance, Soft skills and imposter syndrome that impacting many of the IT workforce and solutions for overcoming them.

Theresa Miller - @24x7ITConnect Principal Technologist at Cohesity

Practice Leadership in a Global IT Community

In 2013 after doing some major technical implementations at my employer at the time, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and submit to a conference call for topics. I was also embarking on my MBA as the time and inspired by the topic of leadership and how to develop those skills.

We will uncover my journey becoming an “IT Community” practice leader and being recognized by several major technology areas for my work. The journey has been amazing and has provided me the opportunity to lead in ways I never could have imagined.

Nicky Wrightson - @nickywrightson Principal Engineer at River Island

An Engineer's Guide to a Good Night's Sleep

In a time of empowered teams, complex tech stacks, highly distributed systems the support model of years ago needed to adapt. The developers now own how they run and operate their systems including out of hours support. In this talk I will share several approaches and considerations that can help reduce the risk of that dreaded 3am call from Ops.
