What we’re about
A group to gather to learn about and eventually practice for fun and exercise a variety of martial arts mainly of historic european origin.
Ideally a way to socialise and have a safe enjoyable time.
We will definitely aim to learn about archery, swordsmanship, wrestling and quarterstaff work, with other disciplines looked at if and when instructors are available.
The group is for adults 18 and over only, and you understand that the group exists only to organise talks and social meets and to introduce you to instructors and we have no liability for your safety at any events, which you attend at your own risk.
You agree by joining that we have no liability arising from your attendance at any meets or any other activities as a direct or indirect consequence of you interacting with the group; in particular you agree that we are a gathering of friends and that you will take responsibility to ensure your safety and those you practice with and that you will undertake all steps necessary to ASSURE YOURSELF OF THE QUALITY OF THE INSTRUCTORS AND you will enter into any interactions with instructors and with other members/guests of the group as individuals and not as members of this group.
We do not enter into relations with instructors on your behalf and it is your responsibility to check their qualifications, insurance, attitude etc of the instructors and the safety of any equipment provided by you, the instructors or by others that you agree to train with.
Notwithstanding that you agree not to spar with anyone without their explicit agreement and not to use any sharp weapon in training.
You also agree not to aim any blow near or to the head if the person sparring with you is not using sufficient head protection.
And you agree not to aim any blow to the rest of the body without the usual protection for the sport. We are here to have fun, not to suffer injury.
There is nothing to stop you bringing children that you have parental rights over along, to hear the talks, watch demonstrations and meet the instructors, but you agree that you must assure yourself as a parent of the safety, quality and suitability of the instructors, including any safeguarding issues, DBS etc, before you permit your child to receive instruction or train under the instructor. Hunts Historic European Martial Arts will take no part in this process and you agree that we have no part in it.
We aim to be a group that is equally interested in the historical aspects of european martial arts, looking back to the archers at Agincourt, D'Artagnan and Little John with his staff as much as getting into learning the practice in a hands on way.
