Stone Door (Tennessee) hike
Details
I'm a new hike leader here, was previously with the Sierra Club. The South Cumberland area in Tennessee is one of my favorite places to hike so I thought I'd lead a trip to one of the most popular spots, the Stone Door. It's a crack in the rock on the plateau that creates a "door" down to the trails in the gorge. It's about 1.5 hours from Huntsville. Here are some photos:

It's about a mile to the Stone Door from the parking lot. We'll walk down through the door to check it out, then we'll go back up to the plateau and hike on a plateau rim trail until we need to turn around. There are many nice views from the plateau and the leaves will probably have started to change. Estimated mileage is 8-9 miles depending on our pace. We'll hike until we reach a good stopping point then turn around. We'll plan to be back at our vehicles by 3:30 for a 5:00 return to Huntsville. If anyone wants to stop in Monteagle, TN for dinner we can also do that.
Please wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes with good tread. Bring a pack with food, water, and the "ten hiking essentials." https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/ten-essentials.html There are no streams on this route to refill water bottles so bring what you need. I usually don't have cell phone reception there.
People in Huntsville will meet at he Publix on Winchester Road at the back of the parking lot near McDonald's. We'll leave promptly at 8:30.
