Wildflower Walk at Joe Wheeler State Park

Note: This walk is on the Joe Wheeler State Park Multi-use Trail, 1 mile south of Wheeler Dam on AL-101 in Colbert County, not at the main park, on the north side of the river in Lauderdale County.

Registering is easy; all we need is:
1. Your name.
2. The number of people in your party.
3. A contact phone number, preferably a cell phone.
The trailhead is on the west side of AL-101 in Lawrence County, AL, 1 mile south of Wheeler Dam.
Meet 1:00pm at the trailhead.
Bring water & snacks. Wear comfortable shoes.
This walk is an easy-moderate 2.2 miles, mostly level, with no steep grades.
The trail traverses a variety of habitat types, including a lovely mature hardwood forest. Expect a nice variety of mid-spring wildflowers.

Directions
From Huntsville:
Take I-565 west.
I-565 west becomes AL-20 west.
After crossing the bridge into Decatur, AL-20 west immediately turns right.
Stay on AL-20 west for another 26 miles to Town Creek.
Turn right on AL-101. Go about 7 miles.
The Joe Wheeler State Park Multi-Use Trailhead will be on your left, a mile south of Wheeler Dam.
From Birmingham:
Take I-65 north for about 73 miles.
Take Exit 334, AL-67 north to Decatur. Go 4.5 miles.
AL -67 becomes AL-67N/Beltline Rd. SE. Go another 6.3 miles.
Turn left onto US-72alt W / AL-20 W. Go about 23 miles to Town Creek.
Turn right on AL-101. Go about 7 miles.
The Joe Wheeler State Park Multi-Use Trailhead will be on your left, a mile south of Wheeler Dam.
From Sheffield/Muscle Shoals:
Take 2nd Street (CR-184) to the east all the way until it dead-ends on AL-101.
Turn left on AL-101. Go about 2 miles.
