Muril is currently an honorary member of HPS and has judged an HPS monthly each year since 2014. He was very active in photography between 1985 and 2010 enjoying many photo trips each year all over the U.S. Muril was active in HPS in the early 1990’s, winning the President’s Award a few times. For several years he freelanced in several areas of photography including commercial, portraiture, weddings etc. His work has appeared in books, calendars, magazines, and art museums, and his images have placed in international competitions. He also taught Nature Photography for UAH
Continuing Education for a couple years. Muril still enjoys photography but for the past few years has concentrated more on kayak racing and his work in applied mathematics. At 80, he thinks he may retire in 2026 but has a couple of innovations he would to see make it a little farther down the road.
