Let's come out and wish Regan Good luck in her new adventure in life! (Post hike coffee & cake at the Inn.)
** This not a beginner hike **
We will meet in front of the Inn and start hiking exactly at 7:00am - please arrive a few minutes earlier with bathroom done, all gear on, ready to roll. The plan is that we will hike the 4.5 mile route via Major Welsh and AT to the Moon Rock (we will NOT see Perkins Memorial Tower) and return to the Inn.

** We will take alternative trails if Major Welsh happens to be closed.

** The optional 2 extra miles in the vicinity will be decided by the group.

Park in the main parking lot #1, right in front of the Bear Mountain Inn. GPS coordinates are 41.31270, -73.98924 for parking and the meeting spot.

TO BRING:

1. the Bear Mountain (or Harriman #119) map
2. headlamp
3. water and snacks
4. moisture wicking layers
5. Microspikes (in winter conditions)
6. Warm/wind shielding jacket

Elevation Gain: 1200' ~ ?
Hike time: ~ 2 hours

Fahnestock Evening Hike: Chimney Top / Farewell Celebration for Regan!
Tuesday 5/6 - 5:30 pm

We will spend some time hanging out at the top and wishing Regan the best as she will be leaving the Hudson Valley. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage for a toast!

Distance: 4.4 miles, Time: ~2 hours, Elevation gain: ~500 feet

Gear: Water, snacks if you wish, hiking boots, wicking clothing, **headlamp just in case**

Chimney Top is my favorite spot in Fahnestock State Park. It offers ruins of a old chimney and great views.

From Route 301, turn onto Dennytown Road. You will pass a parking lot on the left. Continue down the road and we will be parking in the second parking lot you pass, which is also on the left. This parking lot has an old small stone building next to it.

Our route will take us briefly on the red Catfish Loop trail, then we will turn left onto the yellow trail. We take the yellow trail 1.25 miles to the white blazed Chimney Top trail, where we will turn left. We follow that trail to the Chimney Top summit. We will return the way we came.

Join us for an evening hike up Bear Mountain. Pace will be brisk, no it's not recommended for true beginners. There is no sweep.

Park in the main parking lot #1, right in front of the Bear Mountain Inn. GPS coordinates are 41.31270, -73.98924 for parking and the meeting spot.

We will meet outside the Bear Mountain Inn and begin with a short stroll around the lake, We'll ascend on the Major Welch trail (red circle). After 1.65 miles, make a sharp RIGHT TURN where the Major Welch and Appalachian Trails merge and follow the AT South (white rectangle) to Moon Rocks for sunset. Please note, we will not be going to the summit Firepower on this hike We'll descend on the AT South (white rectangle)

Faster hikers are not obligated to wait for slower hikers. You should feel comfortable completing the hike on your own should you fall behind or separate from the group.

Join us for a beautiful sunset climb up Bear Mountain. The pace of the main group will be moderate to quick in order to reach the peak at sunset. Please note that this is not a beginner hike, and there is no sweep.
