See all- Giant Stairs - Palisades Interstate ParkState Line Lookout, Alpine, NJ
We will be hiking White Shore and Long Path Loop Trail, this is a difficult, sometimes rugged, hike with outstanding views. There are also waterfalls and ruins along the way. Some rocky sections involve scrambling.
White Shore and Long Path Loop begins in the parking area at the State Line Lookout. Start hiking on the trail with a sign that reads "Ski Trails." From there, you will see blue blazes to start along the Long Loop. The first part going north from the Palisades Interstate Park Visitor Center and Cafe head down the cliff with moderate exertion and you get to a beautiful waterfall emptying into the Hudson. At this point, if you want an easier hike, you can turn around and go back up. If you continue the loop and head south along the Hudson, it gets harder with rockier sections of the trail. The most difficult part of the hike is a section called the Giant Stairs where you will do most of the ascent back to the parking lot.Length: 4 miles
Elevation gain: 800 ftWednesdays are no parking fee days per the link below.
