- The hike - We start hiking at 9:00am so please arrive earlier and be ready to go. If arriving late, just catch up. The pace will be moderate with stops at several nice viewpoints. We'll get great views from the top of Bear Mtn. by Perkins Tower and along the AT by "Moon Rocks". There's no sweep. Familiarize yourself with the route should you decide to hike faster than the group or at a more leisurely pace.
 
The route:
- Starting by the kiosk by the front of the Bear Mtn. Inn, we'll take the sidewalk to the back of the Inn and up the white-blazed Appalachian Trail (AT). It's about 1.5 miles to the top - all uphill.
- After a break for views at the top, continue on the AT for about 2 miles. We will cross Perkins Drive and then 7 Lakes Drive.
- Once across 7 Lakes Drive, turn left onto the historic 1777E Trail.
- After a half mile, turn left onto the yellow SBM Trail and take it back to the parking lot.
Distance: approx. 6 miles.
Difficulty: rocky trails;
Elevation gain: Approx 1,450 feet
Time: approx 3 - 3.5 hours
Gear: sturdy footwear; clothing for changing temps; water, snacks. Poles may be helpful.
