Schunemunk Mtn. has two ridgelines. We will first hike the western ridgeline before crossing over to the eastern ridgeline for the second half.

The hike: Pace will average a moderate 2.2 - 2.3mph. **No sweeper following last hiker(s) so please review the route.
We'll start hiking from the parking lot at 8:30am so please arrive early and be ready. We will have some very nice viewpoints along this beautiful trail system. Not recommended for a first-time hiker. Hikers who choose to hike slower or faster than the main group must be able to find his/her way on the route.

The route:
- From the parking lot, and walk 800' on the new path and cross road.
- Take white trail uphill about 1.5 miles to Orange.
- Stay on Orange for about 1.4 miles to blue.
- Left on blue down into valley between the ridges and uphill to Yellow.
- Turn left onto yellow. After 3/10th mile, take a left on white to Megaliths.
- Return back to the Yellow and turn left.
- Stay on Yellow several miles to red (at the stream).
- Cross stream and head up ridge on red trail to the white trail.
- At white, turn sharply to the right and take white down hill and back to cars.

Distance: Approx. 8 miles
Elevation gain: approx. 2,200'
Gear: microspikes or similar foot traction; moisture-wicking clothing; poles may be helpful; water and snacks
Difficulty: Possibility of ice/snow; rocky trails; several short rock scrambles to climb.
Map: NY-NJ Trail Conference Map #114; Avenza mapping app; or similar mapping system.

NOTE: You are responsible for bringing appropriate gear, supplies, clothing, first aid, and lights. You should review topographic maps and trail features carefully; understanding topography of any hike is key to your knowing where you are, where you're going, and how to get back.
