The Hike - We start hiking at 9:15 so please arrive earlier and be ready. This is a fun hike with challenging exploration of the Lost City cliffs and crevices. We'll also have great views of the Catskills from Compass Rock. The former site of the 200+ year old Enderly farm, sawmill and cemetery is at the Split Rock site.
The route:
- From the ranger/entrance booth at the West Trapps lot, take the blue trail.
- Turn right onto yellow.
- Turn left onto red Shongum Trail.
- Turn right onto blue SRT for only 100'
-- Turn left to enter the yellow Split Rock loop.
- At end of loop (by footbridge) turn right onto blue. Go .5 mile to yellow.
- Turn right onto yellow Kings Lane.
- Do Lost City cliffs/crevices.
- turn right onto blue and continue to Compass Rock viewpoint.
- Double back on blue to Split Rock
- - After foot bridge, turn right onto red Shongum Trail.
- Continue to end of red. Turn right to parking lot.
Distance: approx. 6 miles
Elevation gain: Approx. 1,000 feet
Difficulty: moderate 2.2 -2.3mph pace; rocky footpaths; ledges; tight crevices; cliffs
Gear: Appropriate footwear; clothing for changing temperatures; poles may be helpful for some people; water; snacks/lunch
