Hadoop security and Apache Sentry(Incubation)

Details

HUG Hyderabad is organizing a meetup on a very interesting aspect, security. As perceived by many, security is a concerning issue on Hadoop platform and Cloudera is doing some wonderful work to address this in the form of its contribution to Apache Sentry. Believe it or not, we have the privilege of listening to Sravya Tirukkovalur, one of the core members of this incubation project team.

As Hadoop becomes mainstream enterprise ready software platform for Big Data analysis, securing your data becomes even more important. Apache Sentry (incubating) fills in this gap by providing role based secure authorization support for end users. In this talk, we will talk about evolution of security in Hadoop and how different security pieces fit in with emphasis on Authorization. We will discuss the architecture of Sentry, how to configure it and will also discuss its road map. For the developers/contributors in the audience, Sravya also plans to talk about how to contribute code to open source projects like Sentry, file bugs and request features.

Speaker Introduction: Sravya Tirukkovalur is a core developer on the Sentry team and has been working on the project almost since its inception. She is a committer and PPMC member of this incubating project on Apache. Prior to this, she has worked on Apache Hive and Flume.
