Step into a different chapter of Welsh history…

If North Wales was the kingdom of Edward I’s iron ring, South Wales is where castles feel alive β€” dramatic, romantic, and deeply woven into the landscape.
This journey takes us through mighty Norman strongholds, fairy-tale towers hidden in forests, castles perched on cliffs, and one of the greatest royal fortresses in Britain.
Think windswept battlements, sweeping coastal views, quiet valleys, and stone walls glowing in sunset light.
Three days. Iconic castles. Epic scenery. Unforgettable memories.

# πŸ—Ί The Journey

## πŸ“… Day 1 – Norman Power & Gothic Dreams

We begin our adventure with castles that tell stories of ambition, wealth, and medieval prestige.

### 🏰 Raglan Castle

One of the most impressive late medieval castles in Britain. Built as much for prestige as for defence, Raglan features the magnificent Great Tower, elegant residential apartments, and a refined aristocratic atmosphere. A fortress designed to impress as much as to protect.

### 🏰 Caerphilly Castle

The second largest castle in Britain and a masterpiece of water defences. Vast lakes, powerful walls, and Wales’ famous leaning tower, which boldly challenges gravity. A fortress engineered to stop armies β€” and still looks ready to do so.

### 🏰 Castell Coch

A dramatic contrast β€” a fairy-tale castle hidden in woodland. Rebuilt in the 19th century as a romantic Gothic fantasy, Castell Coch looks like something from legend. Rich interiors, towering turrets, and pure architectural imagination.
Hotel check-in and relaxed evening.

## πŸ“… Day 2 – Wild Landscapes & Dramatic Ruins

Today the scenery becomes even more dramatic, and the castles even more unforgettable.

### 🏰 Carreg Cennen Castle

One of the most breathtaking castle locations in Britain. Perched high on a limestone cliff, it looks almost unreal β€” as if grown from the rock itself. Beneath it lies a natural cave you can explore… because medieval drama apparently needed an underground chapter too.

### 🏰 Kidwelly Castle

A powerful Norman fortress with beautifully preserved defensive design. Massive walls, inner wards, and classic concentric structure make this one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture in Wales.

### 🏰 Laugharne Castle

A poetic and peaceful setting overlooking the estuary. Associated with writer Dylan Thomas, this castle feels contemplative and atmospheric β€” a place where history meets inspiration.
Return to hotel.

## πŸ“… Day 3 – Royal Power & Grand Finale

Our final day brings us to one of the greatest castles in Wales.

### 🏰 Pembroke Castle

Birthplace of Henry VII and one of Britain’s most imposing fortresses. Towering walls rise dramatically above the water, enclosing a vast inner ward. This is medieval power on a monumental scale.
We then begin our journey back.

### 🏰 Chepstow Castle (if time allows)

The oldest surviving stone castle in Britain. Stretching along dramatic cliffs above the River Wye, it marks the beginning of Norman control in Wales. A fitting historic finale if time permits.
Return journey in the evening, carrying memories that will last far longer than photographs.
