Public Tour at Cantor Arts Center - Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior

I’d love to invite you to join me for a special cultural outing — a guided tour of Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior at the Cantor Arts Center.
This exhibition is a rare opportunity to experience the work of Shahzia Sikander, an internationally renowned Pakistani American artist whose practice spans more than three decades. Through painting, drawing, animation, and installation, Sikander reimagines South Asian visual traditions through a contemporary feminist lens, exploring themes of identity, diaspora, colonial history, gender, and the body.
Rather than following a strict chronology, the exhibition is organized around recurring ideas and visual motifs that run through her work — from her groundbreaking early piece The Scroll to more recent works that reflect her role as a global artist and cultural disruptor. It’s an exhibition that invites reflection, conversation, and multiple interpretations.
This show originally premiered as a Collateral Event of the Venice Biennale and is now presented at the Cantor as part of its Asian American Art Initiative — marking the most significant solo exhibition by an artist associated with this initiative to date.
