Live coding a 12-factor cloud-native Java application
Details
NOTE: THIS IS AN EARLY TIME SLOT SESSION - repeated on Thu Jun 9 at 3:30-4:30 pm ET.
Are you planning to build microservices or cloud-native applications? The best practice of building a first-class Cloud-Native Microservice is to follow the 12-Factor application model (https://12factor.net/). But how do you fulfill the 12-factor rules, e.g. how do you externalize the configuration, fault tolerance, etc?
In this session, we’ll take you through live coding of building 12-factor microservices using open cloud-native Java APIs in MicroProfile (microprofile.io) and get them running on the open-source Open Liberty (openliberty.io) framework. And finally, we’ll deploy them to Kubernetes to see how they function! And we will provide you with background and pointers so that you can do these on your own, too!
Note that this is part 1 of a 3-session series on Cloud-Native Development, Application Modernization & Java Innovations on Jun 8/9, Jun 22/23, and Jul 13/14. The sessions are independent of each other, so if you miss an earlier session, you will still get value from subsequent sessions. We will provide reference links and do quick recaps of previous sessions as required.
Presenters: Kathryn Kodama, YK Chang
Kathryn Kodama is a software developer the Open Liberty Developer Experience team within IBM application platform. She contributes to various open source projects that provide tooling for cloud-native Java developers using MicroProfile, Jakarta EE, and Open Liberty.
YK Chang is currently an architect and developer advocate on the IBM’s application platform (Open Liberty/WebSphere) team and contributes to various OSS projects. His focus is on developer experience and the development of cloud-native applications using MicroProfile, Jakarta EE and other cloud technologies. He is keen on how we can make life easier for developers.
