To help guide conversation, following are a few examples of questions that you could ask:
What field/industry do you work in?
What are some pros and cons to working in that industry?
How did you break into your line of work?
Given my business interests, what advice might you provide to help me become successful?
What should I bring to the Speed Networking Event?
You may consider bringing a padfolio (or professional folder) to hold your business cards, note paper, writing material, and samples of your work.
I’ve made the perfect contact at the Speed Networking Event, so now what?
If you happen to meet someone that you’d like to stay connected with, be sure to ask for a business card.
Within 24 hours of the event, send a follow-up email, perhaps expressing your appreciation for their time and expertise, your interest in their field and your desire to stay connected. Note, however, that effective networking involves maintaining your professional connections—even months after the networking event.
