What we’re about
Welcome to Idaho Hikers and backpackers- a community for hikers, backpackers, and nature enthusiasts who share a love for exploring the rugged beauty of Idaho.
From exploring the Sawtooths to the Owyhees, we organize day hikes, backpacking trips, snowshoeing, educational talks, and skills workshops for all experience levels.
Our mission is simple: to foster personal growth and strong friendships by sharing safe, challenging adventures and learning opportunities in hiking and backpacking. In short, where friends and nature meet.
Whether you are discovering your first alpine lake, planning a multiday trek, or climbing the highest peaks in Idaho, you'll find support, knowledge, and camaraderie here.
We believe the best way to experience Idaho is one trail at a time -- come join us and explore the wild places of Idaho.

Snowshoeing and Breakfast w/ Scottie & Samantha (NEW LOCATION)
Ten mile Park and Ride, 3047 W Overland Road, Meridian, ID, USThis Meet up has been updated due to recent snow reports:
Come join me and my wife Samantha; celebrate my birthday with our first snowshoe of the year in McCall. I plan to bring my snowshoes and Ski Pulk made in Minnesota-- you can try it out if you want! We will stop for breakfast at the Den
From there we will either go to Pondersoa State Park (lower elevation) or Little Payette Lake & Lick Creek area (higher elevation) . This depends on how much snow comes this week. Likely by Thursday we will have a better idea (they are fairly close to each other).
January can be a cold month in McCall (estimated be in low 30s on Saturday). I general do not cancel events due "bad weather" unless it is unsafe. So come prepared with proper gear. Hear are some suggestions:
- Snowshoes and ski or trekking poles with snow baskets
- Buff or balaclava
- Midweight gloves. If you run cold, consider bringing mittens. My favorite are cold work original.
- Sun glasses or ski googles .
- Top and bottom layers. No cotton or jeans
- 2 Nalgene bottles . No bladders , even with a liner- these can freeze (club policy). Alternatively, you can bring one Nalgene and 1 thermos.
- Day backpack
- Snacks
- Sun screen and chap stick
- Hand warmers
- Full tank of gas
- Snow chains
- Change of clothing for after the snowshoe
Send me any questions you have.
Last minute sign-ups/cancellations:
I put a significant amount of time planning to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Please inform the organizer as soon as possible with any cancellations 3 pm before the meet up. No shows/no communication is unfair to others who are on the waitlist and makes planning difficult for the organizer. Please review our no-show policy. If you are sick, please stay home and hike with us another time. I reserve the right to take photos and videos of people joining the event.
