Redwoods Dunes & Coastal Treks! N. Cali & Southern Oregon Coast: 3 day Rd Trip.
Details
"The most spectacular section of the Oregon Coast is the final 25 miles before the Oregon Border. The grassy headlands, offshore rocks, and pocket beaches here as are as good (or better) than anywhere else in Oregon."
~ Douglas Lorain, Author of 100 Classic Hikes in Oregon
Most people travel to California to see redwoods. But did you know that the only redwoods in the Pacific North West are located in Southern Oregon?
Join us as we explore four of Southern Oregon's top 100 hikes as well as the redwoods.
Itinerary:
Day 1: We will meet in Turner, a small rural town near Salem at 7 am. There is safe street parking near my home. We arrange carpooling with a maximum of 2 cars allowed on the trip due to campground regulations. We will travel down I-5 toward Grants Pass and onto Highway 199. We will grab lunch along the way and likely do some site seeing. We will dip into Northern California and see the very edge of the state at Tolowa State Park (see how our time goes). Next, we will take a short walk to see the Redwoods.
We will set up camp at Humbug Mountain State Park before ending our day at Blacklock point. Bring your camp stove to cook your own meal out near the beach.
Day 2: We will start early. I’ll make oatmeal for you. We will drive up to the Whalehead Cove trailhead for a hike to Cape Ferrelo.
After the hike, we will start the drive to the Umpqua dunes but with a quick stop to do the the Sunset Bay to Shore Acres hike.
We will camp that evening at reserved camp site at the Umpqua Dunes recreation center.
I will make dinner for everyone on this evening. It will likely be vegetarian pasta and salad as well as desert.
Day 3. Early morning start. I will make pancakes for us. We will hike out to the Dunes on the John Dellenback trail.
Please bring lunch for this day.
I would suggest we finish the trip with a hike on Cascade Head. Let's see how it goes with energy level/time.
We will drive back to Turner. You are responsible for your own dinner .

Last minute sign-ups/cancellations:
I put a significant amount of time planning to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Please inform the organizer as soon as possible with any cancellations but no later than 7 pm the night before the meet up. Last minute sign ups welcomed. No shows/no communication is unfair to others who are on the waitlist and makes planning difficult for the organizer. Please review our no-show policy. If you are sick, please stay home and hike with us another time.
