Grand Canyon South Rim to North Rim Overnight. Option to Double Rim

Details

Less than 1% of visitors to the Grand Canyon go below the rim. But the really magic is the epic Rim To Rim hike (R2R) with its mesmerizing scenery. You will pass through two billion years of the Earth’s history and eleven layers of ancient rocks. Eventually, after hours of knee-pounding hiking, you’ll reach the sandy banks of the Colorado River. The R2R hike is consistently named in the top 10 hikes in the world. Come join us for this challenging, supportive, and fun hike. Get to know some new fellow explorers.
* PLEASE READ CAREFULLY*

Distance: 21 miles South to North; 23.5 North to South.
Elevation: 6,200 Total Feet of Climbing.
Difficulty: Very difficult
Getting back from the North Rim campground to the South Rim parking lot:
The plan is for those completing the R2M to shuttle back on Sunday May 26th after overnight camping on the 25th. This is a 4 hour ride and offered twice daily. Like everything in popular parks, it likely books up quickly especially on a holiday weekend. So book as soon as you sign up:

Camp: I have reserved 2 campsites at North rim for May 25th. I have room for limited tent sites (1 large tent or 2 small tents per site). If I run out of camp sites, I may ask you before removing you from the waitlist if you would be willing to cowboy camp or bivy:

Alternatively, there is a lodge you can stay at at the North Rim.
Note: I will camp and leave early in morning going back to the South Rim thus completing the Rim to Rim to Rim (R2R2R). You are welcome to join me the next day.
Route: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/south-to-north-kaibab-trail
Pass: Each car needs a day ($30) or annual park pass ($80)

What to bring:

  • There a various gear lists online. As we get closer I will post my own. Start evaluating your gear and seeing if you can replace with lighter items. Here is one company for ultralight gear I recommend: Garage Grown Gear

Where to meet:
We will meet at 6 pm Friday May 24 the evening before the hike for dinner, greet fellow hikers, chat about the next day, and do a quick gear check. The exact location TBA but will be close to the South Rim.
Carpooling: I will be coming from Pocatello if you need a ride. Reach out to me via event chat.
Last minute sign-ups/cancellations:
I put a significant amount of time planning to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Please inform the organizer as soon as possible with any cancellations . No shows/no communication is unfair to others who are on the waitlist and makes planning difficult for the organizer. Please review our no-show policy. If you are sick, please stay home and hike with us another time.
Thanks
~Scottie
