Level 3-4 Training Hike Boise Foothills
Details
We’re ramping it up in April in preparation for the Grand Slam and backpacking season.
Join us for a classic Boise Foothills hike known for steep climbs and long mileage based on Stueby”s Death March hike featured in The Boise Hiking Guide .Come hike all or part of this hike (see below)
We’ll move at a steady, sustainable pace while practicing efficient climbing techniques like the rest step. Breaks about every 90 minutes and ~1 hr for a lunch break and education.
If you come out for at least one training hike we will give you preference on our backpacking trips!
Goals
- This is a strenuous training hike designed to build endurance and uphill fitness needed for backing
- Learn one safety skill and one backpacking skill to empower you on our trips.
- The training on the foot work will take about 30 minutes
- Will divide into groups to tackle safety planning over lunch. Likely to take about 15 minutes.

Route: we will discuss at the event as it is not available on AllTrails etc but rather adapt from a published hike.
Where to Meet: Lulu's Fine Pizza and Sushi. Parking available. Please avoid parking in the spots designated for the church.
Parking at trailhead: from Lulu's, we carpool to Fort Boise. Then walk a short distance to the trailhead. We can return to the parking lot at the end from one of the spur trails from the route or finish the dedicated route. Please do not meet us at the trailhead but at Lulu's.

To simulate backpacking conditions, participants should carry a pack weighing 15–20% of their body weight. You can use gear, books, rice bags, water bottles etc to achieve the desired weight. I will bring a scale to the event if you would like to weigh your pack.
