Details

Run for to the hills, run for your life (to quote Iron Maiden). Well maybe not that dramatic.
We're ramping up in April in preparation for the Grand Slam and backpacking season. Let's build some stamina on Scottie's Last Breath Endurance Run through the Pocatello Hills. (okay, since Stueby has his Death March, why cannot I have something similar? Maybe this is getting silly. LOL).

Location: Portneuf Wellness ComplexMeet outside the Ticket Office nearish the pond. I'll shoot you my number so you will have no problem finding me.

Distance: 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
Pace: I am not the fastest runner but on my 10 mile version of this run my pace was 16 minutes per mile. I am fine to go a little slower but no "Sloths." I plan as few stops as possible.
Difficult:
This is pretty tough run for an amateur trail runner but "doable."

Stats (10 mile version):
Time: The ten mile version took me @ 2 hrs 45 minutes. I run a half on most trails in about 3.30.
Total ascent: 1,381 ft
Total descent: 1,450 ft
Max elevation: 5,554 ft

The Route (see photo)
We will be starting at the Wellness Complex and heading up the Bill and Ross Parish Trail to connect with the Pioneer Ridge Trail System.

  • The Ridge: We’ll spend approximately 5 miles on Ridge View, enjoying moderate ups and downs with sweeping views of the valley.
  • The Middle Loop: Following a brief road section, we’ll tackle a very short uphill climb on a private road before connecting to a series of unnamed trails that lead down into a drainage.
  • The Finish: After a short stretch through a local neighborhood, we’ll hop back onto the Ridge View Trail to cruise all the way back to the Wellness Complex.

What to Bring

  • Hydration: Bring enough water/electrolytes for 3+ hours of exposed running.
  • Shoes: Trail shoes a must.
  • Hat, sunglass, sunscreen.

Heavy metal, rock, and punk music shall be played!

Stay:
Much of the group lives in Boise. There are hotels in town and also a KOA where you can camp.https://koa.com/campgrounds/pocatello/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp
