Backpacking the Craters of the Moon Wilderness Trail (Level 1)
Details
Join us for a unique backpacking adventure across the volcanic landscapes of Craters of the Moon! This trip will explore the Wilderness Trail, a route that travels through rugged lava flows, cinder cones, and wide open high desert terrain.
This is a chance to experience one of the most unusual wilderness areas in the U.S. The landscape is stark, dramatic, and surprisingly beautiful—often compared to walking on another planet. Note that the park is about a 2.45 drive from Boise. Dogs are NOT allowed per park rules. The entry cost is $20 per vehicle.
## How to sign up.
Everyone who signs up will be put on the waitlist. We will take you off the waitlist if you 1) came to any training hike;2) frequently attend our events;3) space available- in that order
##Trip Plan
We will obtain free backcountry permits at the visitor center. We’ll hike several miles into the Craters of the Moon Wilderness, set up camp in the backcountry, and enjoy a quiet night under some incredible dark skies. The terrain is mostly flat but can be rough due to hardened lava and uneven surfaces.
