RSVP HERE to attend (not on meetup).

Big Gal Backpackers Boise and Sierra Clubs OUTdoors Idaho are collaboratively hosting a day hike at the Shoofly Oolite Interpretive Trail Site, a cool geologic area in the Owyhee canyonlands. About an 1h 15 minutes drive from Boise, the site features oolites, aka “egg stones,” as well some fossils and interesting rock formations, remnants from the ancient Lake Idaho, which existed during the Pliocene Era about 2-5 million years ago. Enjoy some beautiful scenery and build queer community in Idaho's great OUTdoors!

  • Beaver Naturalist Walk

    Beaver Naturalist Walk

    Location not specified yet

PLEASE RSVP HERE ON THE SIERRA CLUB WEBSITE! RSVP-ing on MeetUp alone will NOT guarantee you a spot on the trip.

Join the Idaho Sierra Club for an easy naturalist walk near Marianne Williams Park to learn about beavers (and look for birds)! Emily Iskin, a Fluvial Geomorphologist focusing on beaver restoration research, will teach us about beavers and how they benefit the ecosystem. She’ll point out signs of beavers along the trail.

    What to expect:
12:00 p.m. | Meet the Marianne Willams Park Picnic Shelter and share a picnic lunch (sandwiches from Boise Co op!)
12:10 p.m. | Pre-hike meeting and review of event safety and expectations; intro info about beavers by Emily
12:30 p.m. | Walk along Marianne Willams Trail while learning from Emily about beavers and keeping an eye out for beaver sign
2:00 p.m. | Arrive back at trailhead. Event concludes.

    Who is this outing for?
Most people should be able to participate in this walk as it is an easy, flat trail and we'll go at a pace comfortable for all participants. However, this trail is not wheelchair accessible. While part of the trail is paved, part of it is on a dirt path.

    Trail information
We'll begin on the paved trails of Marianne Williams Park and then walk alongside the Boise River. The walks will be 4 miles at 56
ft feet elevation gain. There is minimal shade. See our route on AllTrails.

More about difficulty, skill level, and safety:
Our trip leaders will carry a full first aid kit along with extra water. We will be making a few stops along the way as needed to regroup, and to take photos. Trip leaders will be at the front, middle, and back of the group, communicating along the way to ensure all is well and that the group isn't too spread out. Please reach out to a group leader if you have any questions about the difficulty level of the route or what to expect!

    Food
Lunch is on us! Please let us know your dietary restrictions in your RSVP.

    Other considerations:

    Kids & families are welcome!

No dogs or other pets on this outing (we love your furry friends, but please leave them home).

Please fill out a separate registration form for each person, so we can have a signed waiver on file for each person.

We expect everyone joining this event to act respectfully and help create a safe and inclusive space for folks from marginalized identity groups. All participants must adhere to the standards of conduct in our Participant Agreement
