Ideas and Coffee is happy to announce a new Meetup happening in our coworking space. This meetup is focused on cybersecurity for small businesses and individuals and will be meeting on the second Wednesday of the month. Caldera Cybersecurity is the sponsor of the event. Please RSVP to their meetup, not this one.
Our speaker is Rick Myers is a seasoned cybersecurity professional and the founder of Caldera Cybersecurity Services, proudly headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Rick brings over 30 years of experience helping businesses—from local nonprofits to national enterprises—protect their data, meet compliance standards, and prepare for the unexpected. He holds industry-leading credentials including CISSP and PCIP, and has led cybersecurity initiatives across finance, telecommunications, and education.
Rick is passionate about serving the business community here in New Mexico and beyond, bringing a people-first approach to cybersecurity. His work is all about making security practical and approachable—empowering leaders to reduce risk without getting buried in tech jargon. Whether he's securing cloud systems or helping a small business bounce back after an incident, Rick is focused on keeping our local economy resilient, one business at a time.
- Intro Level Rust get-togetherIdeas and Coffee Coworking, Albuquerque, NM
This is an introductory-level Rust get-together.
Bring a laptop (or don't). Those who want to will install Rust and some tools (e.g., trunk) and then we'll explore code (whether you've installed Rust or not).
We'll look at BurntSushi's ripgrep because it's awesome and his level of detail in everything is something to aspire to. We'll also look at some of my code, because it's horrible and may inspire you via "if he can do it, how hard can it be?"
Another reason to look at some of my code is I have a couple of tiny proof-of-concept Rust-only web clients that demonstrate how to do some things that are traditionally done via JavaScript:
- upload, which does client-side uploads and stores them via IndexDB and
- broadcast, which allows two web pages to communicate using the Broadcast Channel API.
Pizza and beverages will be provided.
The host and speaker for this event is Cliff Matthews:
Cliff Matthews (aka Lazy Young Deadhead) has been programming a long time. He lost his memory in a poker game and consequently relies on Rust to have his back (since he can't remember large codebases ... anything).
