Can you learn Spanish slang by reading a children's classic? Join and find out!

Yes, you got that right! Even though this is a book club, Manolito Gafotas is immensely useful for getting familiar Spanish slang so don't let the word "book" deceive you :D

Honestly, I don't even know how I can express in text the amazingness of this book, I'll try but I'll fall short. This book is hilarious, it's a classic, and it's just so very useful! Ask your Spanish friends about how legendary this book is! :D

(Hint: It's as classic as The Famous Five in English!)

This book club is for you if you have an intermediate level of Spanish but despite that are still struggling to understand Spanish speakers. Even though this is a book club, you will learn so much essential slang it will help you relax in your daily interactions.

Our main character Manolito says things like "Mi abuelo mola, mola mucho, mola un pegote", "Eso me cortaría bastante el rollo" and "Lo de romper la ropa lo llevan fatal". If you want to learn more expressions like this that a native 8-year-old knows but that don't typically appear in teaching materials, I'd recommend joining this book club!

And even though it was published in 1994, the slang used in it is still very relevant.

Apart from being useful for learning slang, this book is also hilarious, and I'm hoping that our little book club can bring you closer to the Spanish sense of humour.

How it's going to work:

I'm going to provide cheat sheets with new vocabulary and expressions. We're going to review it, and after that we'll read and discuss the chapters together in class. After each class you'll be assigned homework so that the grammar and vocabulary acquired during class time actually get committed to long-term memory.
