What we’re about
Leave your gripes, worries, and anxieties behind and let's go on a hike! This meetup is for folks who enjoy the outdoors and good company. Some hikes are hard, some are pretty easy. Read more about us here in this recent article in Cary Magazine.
Please know your limitations and come ready to have a good time. If you would like a hike you don't see posted, let me know! You can read about local and regional hikes on my hiking blog : Idratherwalk.com.
Also, we can always use some new hike and event leaders - message me if you think this is something you'd like to do.
Happy hiking! LJ

LOBLOLLY TO SCHENCK FOREST - - Hike starts at 9am
Lets go on a morning hike on Tuesday! Meet at the Reedy Creek entrance of Umstead State Park off of Harrison Ave. (Cross-posted with Raleigh Recreational hikers.)
Come prepared to hike BRISKLY at a 3-3.5 mph pace. Trail will be mostly shady, and we may modify the pace due to trail conditions.
The shorter option 6.5ish mi Loblolly hike will take 1.5-2 hours, and adding on a portion of Schenk to make the full hike of 8-9 miles will add another hour. We should finish the whole thing by 12 noon-12:30pm at the latest.
If it is drizzly and overcast in the morning, I will still hike, pouring rain, no. If needed I will cancel by 8:30am, so watch for that.
Take I-40 to exit 287, Harrison Ave, head north (left on Harrison if you are heading east on I-40, right on Harrison if you were heading west on I-40). Go straight into the parking lot.
Meet by the sign with maps on the right side of the parking lot near the Loblolly trailhead. I will be there right at meetup time.
Wear the proper attire, bring water, snacks etc. Sadly, no dogs are allowed in Schenk Forest. No small children please. If I've forgotten anything, please email me.
