Whether you are a writer curious about interactive storytelling, a game enthusiast, or just interested in discovering new creative work from Western Sydney artists, this event offers a welcoming space to explore, play and connect.
Event Details
- Saturday 28 March
- 3.00pm – 6.00pm
- Arts & Cultural Exchange (ACE), Parramatta
Arrive at 3pm to hear from emerging writers in the program, as well as our creative partners, including Powerhouse Parramatta and the local game developers from Serenade Games, who led the series of workshops.
Then, the space opens up for play!
Guests are invited to move through the room and try the games. Chat with the creators, compare endings, and see how each project transforms writing into something you can actively experience.
Who is this for?
- Writers and filmmakers curious about new ways to tell stories
- Creatives exploring games, narrative design or digital media
- Students and emerging artists
- Anyone who enjoys stories — especially ones that don’t behave the same way twice
No gaming experience needed. If you can read a story, you can play a narrative game.
What is a narrative game?
These are text-based interactive stories — think writing, but with choices.
Built using tools like Twine, Ink and Bitsy, these works invite you to:
- Make decisions that shape the story
- Follow different pathways through the narrative
- Replay and discover multiple endings
It’s storytelling reimagined, where structure becomes part of the creative challenge and the audience becomes part of the experience.
About the program
Across three weekends in March, participants in the Beyond the Script workshop program have been exploring how storytelling can move beyond traditional forms and into interactive formats using platforms such as Ink, Twine and Bitsy. At this special showcase event, they will present the projects they have been developing and invite audiences to experience them firsthand.
Come and see where the stories take you!
This project is supported by Screen NSW, produced by Arts & Cultural Exchange in partnership with Powerhouse Parramatta, Serenade Games and Made in the West Creative.
