IEC SmartGrid Strategy, Plans and Projects

Details

New trends are emerging in the shaping of smart grid technology. The main goal is to make an energy grid intelligent so that consumers are using the grid's produced electricity in the most efficient manner possible. The new trends are seen in the overall automation of the distribution of electricity, data analysis, demand response, carbon management, home energy management, and the implementation of electric vehicles (EV) to the grid.

The Role of Voltage Optimization in Smart Grid Applications: Concept & Implementation
Eran Tagor, Co-chairman of the Board of Directors, PowerSines
The use of ComEC and HomEC, PowerSines’ proprietary integrated Volt/VAR voltage optimization platform for Smart Grid architecture. While utilities control the voltage at the substation level, or medium voltage transformers, the HomEC / ComEC can take the voltage optimization to the last mile up to the end user point. As such, they can “capture” and eliminate the whole inefficiency inherent in the electrical network due to voltage drops and fluctuations attributed to variation in demand and network losses. HomEC (Home Efficiency Controller) is targeted at residential house, while ComEC (Commercial Efficiency Controller) is targeted at small and medium business, such as restaurants, hotels, buildings etc. The use of ComEC / HomEC is a win-win solution for customers, utilities and the environment, and can serve as a key element of Smart Grid applications.

The “Security Risk Age” in Energy Smart Grid
Eyal Adar, Founder & CEO, White Cyber Knight (WCK)

• Why security risk management is so important for the Smart Grid.

• Suggested framework for comprehensive security risk assessment. Based on involvement in the CIIP (Critical Information Infrastructure Protection) Task Force of CEPS (Center for European Policy Studies)

• WCK-L, a risk management system that can make the difference.
