What we’re about
Under the motto "Friendship through Flowers" Ikebana International offers workshops in different schools of floral design. If you enjoy flowers and would like to learn more about different ways to create arrangements, from the traditional to contemporary, we hope you will join us. Our workshops are informal and fun.
In ikebana, blossoms, branches, leaves, and stems find new life as materials for art. The practice began with the arrival of Buddhism in Japan from China when converts began leaving floral offerings at the temples. This was codified in the 15th century with the creation of the first school, Ikenobo, in Kyoto, which is still in operation.
Other schools have emerged, each with their own aesthetics. Today, the art continues to evolve to capture the innate beauty of the natural world in new and creative ways.
