"Doing nothing is as good as collaborating."

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. While it is another historical fiction novel about World War II, All the Light We Cannot See is a unique take on an overdone genre.

Marie-Laure is a blind French girl who lives with her father in Paris; Werner is a German orphan who lives in a coal mining town. When the Nazis occupy Paris, Marie-Laure and her father must flee to Saint-Malo to live with her great-uncle. Meanwhile, Werner is saved from working in the mines and trains to be in the German army because of his uncanny ability to build and fix radios. When Werner is tasked with hunting down the resistance with his radio skills, he will eventually make his way to Saint-Malo where his and Marie-Laure’s paths cross.
